Preparing for the first visit
Recovery after stroke is not something you do alone. Your therapist will work alongside you, your family, and the people who support you to understand what matters most to you.

The first visits
Your home may feel different after a stroke, even if nothing has physically changed. Everyday tasks may take more time and effort, and adjusting to these changes is a normal part of recovery.
1
Be ready to show your therapist around your home

As part of this research study, your visits will take place in your home. We will first ask you to show us around and demonstrate some everyday activities. Please try to be well rested, as this helps us understand your daily life more accurately.
Being in your home in this way can feel quite personal, but everything you share and everything we observe is treated as strictly confidential within this study.
Remember to complete the 5 questionnaires you received: ABILHAND, SIS, SSEQ, GAD-7, PHQ-9

Preparing for the subsequent visits
- Start thinking about the spaces you use your arm the most or where it can be used more
- Invite a family member or someone you trust to join the visits
- Think about your routines and activities that feel meaningful to you in your everyday life. We will help you make them (SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound)
- Note your routines using the daily diary (Learn About Our Approach - How to Use the Daily Diaries)
4
Assessment of your current abilities
During the first week, your therapist will complete some simple assessments to understand your baseline abilities. This will help us establish a starting point for how you manage your everyday activities. These will be completed again at the end of the 5 weeks.
"The advantage was that I didn't have to travel. They came to me."
